Make sure to check loan forgiveness programs (see link below for some options if they are applicable to you) https://studentaid.gov/manage-loans/forgiveness-cancellation
REFINANCE ASAP! The ideal time has passed, unfortunately...BUT you can still take advantage of the current interest rates before the Fed keeps raising them! This can substantially reduce your total monthly payments, as well as length of your loan as you will be putting more towards your principal each month 👍🏼 . Of course, if your current rate is lower, then this strategy does not apply to you. **Skip if you are a cool kid with a US Passport 😎 🇺🇸** NOTE FOR PEEPS WITH A LOAN BUT ARE NOT US CITIZENS: If Immigration has you in limbo, you are stuck with a DISGUSTING Sallie Mae loan, which is the only thing available to non-US citizens, and you are waiting for approval to get your permanent green card (meaning you had a temporary green card but it expired because the backlogs SUCK and they are taking LITERALLY 4-5 years to process certain immigration cases...), then there is a way to refinance your loans still. It is not 100% guaranteed but might as well try...Plus it worked for me (I used CommonBond)! As an additional attachment to your refi loan application, write a letter stating your current situation and how as a law-abiding green card holder, you should be able to enjoy the benefits of this current status even if the actual card has expired. Also, make sure to take a screenshot of the USCIS Processing Times. Very Important to show this so they understand how bad it is!..Nobody seems to know this unless you are going through it 🙃
Side Jobs - From bookkeeping, dog walking, babysitting, anything and everything. If you can do it and have the extra time, why not!
Find an employer who provide student loan benefits Some of these companies include: - Abbott Labs - Staples - Fidelity - Google And I'm sure there are some others...
Last but not least, the most obvious one: Saving Money...I know you are rolling your eyes because..I get it...But if you can save some money, this is definitely a way to do it. Try cutting where possible (Taco Bell is the bomb and it's cheap so nothing wrong with that strategy!). Also quick tip on saving, it never hurts to ask. ALWAYS try to negotiate with anything you buy i.e. a car, furniture, etc.
